Question and answer/tl;dr meme

Lords and ladies, lads and lasses, it's time for the all-star all-famous all-powerful...

Question and answer meme!!

Here's how it works.

  • You, the undersigned, do hereby post yourself up on the meme.

  • Others come along and ask (OOC) questions. They might ask about your character's motivations, backstory, your writing process, et cetera.

  • You answer and then ask a question of them in return.

  • They answer and then ask a question of you in return.

  • You answer and then ask a question of them in return.

  • They answer and then ask a question of you in return.

  • The process continues until the heat death of the universe (or until someone gets bored and wanders away).

  • Also you should tag out to other people asking them questions.

  • No one is ever late.

So, Nash doesn't really consider himself a mage but he's starting to think of presenting himself that way.

Suikoden magic is weird and equipment based! You have to equip runes to cast spells, and which spells you can cast are determined by which runes you equip. As a result it has a lot of martial specialists who double as competent mages, b/c you can just give your best runes to your best fighters.

Another thing that determines your spellcasting abilities is a magic stat, which is inherent to to the character and represents in-born magical talent. Suikoden magic is a Vancian system, like D&D, where you can cast a certain # of spells per day of each level, and the magic stat determines how many slots they have and the level of spells they can cast. They cast a lot like 3.5/PF sorcerers, with spells known determined by their level, if you're familiar with that at all. Characters also have affinities with certan types of magic, so it's possible to be good at water magic but bad at lightning.

So, Nash has a Wind rune, thus he can cast wind magic, which is his strongest affinity and the only element he can be objectively quite good at. (He's decent at most of the other elements and terrible at Water.) Wind magic is pretty versatile— there's a healing spell, a sleep spell, a multi-target damage spell, and an instant death spell, and Nash is good enough that he can cast the highest level spell on any rune he can equip, but he's very limited in that his magical ability comes from a thing carved on his hand and not himself. He's thinking about asking for a Fire rune so he could use more offensive magic (and also b/c he likes to blow things up).

I only know DA via my timeline complaining about the Discourse, so tell me about where Dorian is from!
