❪ test drive: #1 - the overflow ❫
YOUR STORY BEGINS ![]() The Storm came. You only remember darkness, but you don't remember much after that. All you know, perhaps, is that it was cold as you slept. You don't know for how long you slept, but the dreams were short, at least. You remember the expanse of stars and the universe that came in view. Every world and solar system ever known was displayed in your dreams in careful, pristine detail. You have also witnessed The Storm, which has devoured a fair portion of these galaxies. It was a dark, thick smog; ominous in appearance and ever foreboding. Your Earth and similar planets were immersed in The Storm. Somehow, you knew it would be the last you'd see of it. That was when she told you what happened, and how you can help. You knew that you'll be living somewhere new, even though you never asked for it. The details here weren't clear, but you knew you'd made a deal with Darma. Not long after, you'll wake at Thesa Station — Your body is still cold. It was all a dream, but somehow, you knew it wasn't — now, will you keep that promise you made to Darma? PROMPT: THE MESS HALL ![]() It's fascinating to the Orbiters how such a dull room can be turned around so completely with people in it. All meals are served by Roman, and while all the food is delicious, some of it is a bit odd. Is that neon green soup? That’s hideous. If you happen to be in the mess hall at a particularly unlucky time, you and the food will suddenly begin to drift. Someone’s got jokes, and they’ve turned off the gravity control. Now it’s just you, your fellow refugees, and the floating sea of food. Wait, did that person just chuck a pie in your direction? PROMPT: TRAINING MODULES ![]() While it’s all nice and well to familiarize oneself with Thesa Station, it is most advised that new arrivals venture out a bit. Not physically. No one is quite prepared for that yet. However, there will be several virtual reality training programs set for those who dare to be adventurous. For those who aren’t and don’t dare, well— good luck, all the same. Be advised, however, that participating in one of the training modules will start you off favorably with the Natha Orbiters’ in terms of REPUTATION. Once seated and appropriately strapped in, the system will automatically whir to life and the dense foliage and forestry of a section of El Nysa will open up. According to one’s map registry, it clear to see that it’s miles from the outer gates of Olympia, but not as far enough to venture into any other territories. So, in that sense, you’re safe.
PROMPT: STASIS UNIT ![]() You have found the massive section of Thesa known as the Stasis Unit. There’s no special access required to access this part of Thesa Station, but refugees are warned that it may not be for the faint of heart. Here, in large pods that nearly cover every square inch of the space, are all of the people the Orbiters have managed to rescue. Your loved ones, your greatest enemy, your next door neighbor— you might find them here. These people are in a state of deep cryosleep. Due to the damaging effects of The Storm, their bodies are not yet ready to be awoken. PROMPT: HANGAR STATION ![]() You find your way to the hangar station. Here rests are a factory worth of docked mobile suits. You recall how the Orbiters had previously spoken of a "space frontier," but only after seeing this you realize how real their words are. Most machinery have marks of wear and tear, assurance that they have indeed been used before, and an assembly of others are going through repairs and maintenance. No one seems to care that you've just strolled in. In fact, there seems to be a couple of the aircraft that beckon you to take a closer look. Maybe you’ll only look on the outside, maybe you'll be greeted by the hand of a mobile suit extending toward you and welcoming you to its cockpit. You go out and explore SPACE!!! Unfortunately, that mobile suit should have warned you it only had 20 minutes of flight time left in its system. Or, perhaps, you’re a particularly ambitious pilot and you’ve strayed past the designated perimeter. Either way, the HUD display is now blinking with errors, cropping up with a single message: DISTRESS SIGNAL. PROMPT: OMAGE
Upon receiving your mobile phone, you will be asked to set a username. Voila, you can now access the network! You can choose to send a message to the entire network, specific usernames, or you can try out the Orbiters’ service, Omage, which connects you to a random user. They thought this might be a good way for their new guests to make friends with each other...
Connecting to server... PROMPT: WILDCARD
You are welcome to write any scenarios in Thesa Station! Characters have been granted temporary access to the Observation Room, and are encouraged to study it carefully.
FINAL OOC NOTE
These threads may be carried over as game canon if players choose! Players are encouraged to submit TDM threads as application samples, but they are not required. Please direct any OOC questions to the questions thread below! A Training Module thread of AC length on the TDM may be submitted for 1 NATHA ORBITER REPUTATION POINT after acceptance.

I've never tried so idk . . .
Loss. ]
You'll get a different chance here. I imagine it won't be the same without competitions, but you could make some people happy.
[ As they like to watch things like this. ]
Try to not linger on it, I'm almost finished.
[ Especially since he's almost done. All the body parts put in place so that the "ghost" thanks them both for their help, that she can finally be free. Her voice echoes a little before she finally drifts off, the door to the tomb cracking open so they can exit. ]
Can you move on your own?
[ He doesn't touch him this time though, just keeps himself between JJ and the corpse so he can't see it as clearly. ]

He knows that Edward is only trying to help, but unfortunately JJ isn't so easily appeased. He'd dedicated his entire life to working and creating something, and being here in a place with people who have fought wars and travelled dimensions, it makes that thing that he'd spent his entire life on feel so insignificant.
Long story short, he's kind of having an identity crisis. ]
I can move.
[ He steps closer to Edward, keeping his gaze solidly above the ground where the reassembled corpse now lays. ]
Anyone ever tell you that you're really weird? [ Despite his words, he gives the other teen a friendly nudge in the back as a show of thanks. ] Do you think we're going to run into any other ghosts on our way out? I might actually throw up.
no subject
Not too often, no. [ It comes with a faint puff of air forced through his body. ] Though I don't often get too... close to other people either. It's what you could call a habit of mine.
[ He reaches back then, hand faintly patting JJ on the shoulder. ]
Hopefully this will be the end of it, but I can handle it if something else comes up.
[ As long as JJ doesn't get hurt, they should be fine anyway. ]
no subject
There's not a lot of people—or maybe any—that would go out of their way to make sure that he's comfortable in a situation like this, and he appreciates that.
To the point where he honestly wishes he could tell Edward that he doesn't need to act so brave, and that JJ doesn't intend to rely on him going forward.
Unfortunately, he's not quite there yet. ]
"Handle" it.
[ He smiles a little, squeezing Edward's shoulder as he slides past the other teen toward the door, head tilted up so that he's practically staring at the ceiling in an effort to avoid the scene on the floor. ]
There's nothing wrong with just running away next time—
[ His hands are extended out in front of him, pressing against the stone door soon enough, but, thankfully, it moves easily under his palms. ]
I'm just excited to breathe fresh air again.
no subject
It isn't just the physical side of it either, his control is only this good while he keeps himself away.
His own shoulder pats had been brief, so the squeeze on his shoulder and how close the other is for a moment is Uncomfortable, though he does well at hiding it. It's more important to do that when he knows the other is trying to hold himself together as it is. ]
I'm not sure if that would have worked, given the circumstances.
[ The door opens then, leading to an area that seems more like ancient ruins that have been overrun with ivy and other plants. It's actually quite beautiful, or would be if they didn't have to find their way out from this. ]
It looks like we aren't finished yet.
no subject
It had been quiet in the room they'd been in, and maybe it's because JJ had been expecting some signs of life and freedom, but the silence in the decrepit hallway seems stifling. He exhales, taking a moment to enjoy the smell of old stone and rotting vegetation. ]
I don't see any dead bodies, at least.
[ He knows better than to follow up that statement with "how bad can it be?"
Unfortunately, he doesn't need to when something cracks behind them, further down the hallway but no less loud in their ears. JJ also doesn't get a chance to regret turning his head toward the source of the sound, his heart dropping straight into his chest when the sight of a skeleton, still with strips of flesh and scraggly hair, crawling out from the ground to unleash an unholy screech, its gaze pinned right on them. ]
no subject
You might want to consider what you say next time.
[ He doesn't actually speak until the door has shut and the skeleton is already starting to come at them. Out of instinct, his arm moves to cross in front of JJ, eyes narrowing as he looks ahead at the creature shambling towards them now. The screech hurts his ears a little, but it's easy enough to grit his teeth and push away with focus. ]
How fast can you run?
no subject
For all intents and purposes, they should both be pissing their pants right now. ]
How fast can I— how fast can you run?
[ Because JJ is absolutely not here for any of this heroic posturing, and while he'd been happy to let Edward take of their earlier problem, he's not callous enough to abandon the other teen now. It's obvious that Edward thinks he can handle this however, though why he would think that is beyond JJ. He doesn't have the time to ask either, which is why he doesn't bother giving any warning before he grabs Edward by the arm, fingers digging into the fabric of his sleeve, yanking roughly to the point that he's practically dragging the other teen with him as he turns tail to bolt in the other direction down the hallway.
And while their escape should be viewed as them admitting that the creature is too strong for them to handle (a compliment, obviously), the mummy behind them doesn't appear to take kind to it, unleashing another deafening shriek loud enough to rattle the walls around them, dust creaking and pouring from the ceiling. Until the hallway really is shaking around them, the mummy hot in its pursuit and its footsteps thundering around them.
Then there's JJ, heart pounding in his chest, barely thinking and focusing all his energy on running, though he's certainly not above letting out a yelp of panic. ]
no subject
Yet, JJ pulls on his arm, panicking as he is (something that only makes his thirst worse, something he doesn't want to think about anymore. fear, no matter how much he might want to resist it, always smells divine.) as he tries to drag Edward with him. He doesn't want to keep JJ back if the other won't let himself leave Edward behind, so he runs with him while trying to think of what to do about this without causing too much suspicion on himself.
It's when the yelp of panic comes that he finally pulls on JJ's hold on him, twisting him a bit so he can try and gently pull him onto his back. ]
Just hold on.
[ The speed picks up twentyfold then, enough that JJ should feel air whip past his face like he's on a rollercoaster. The skeleton makes another screeching noise as Edward runs to the other end of the hall, pushing the doors so hard the stone cracks and crumbles.
They've lost it -- but it definitely doesn't mean that this is over.
The area in front of them that meets them up ahead is a large swamp. It's purple in colour, bubbles rising to the surface. Instantly, Edward reaches to push his jacket back up to JJ's face again, just in case the air is toxic. ]
Keep that close, I'll take a look around.
[ With no explanation, apparently. ]
no subject
It takes a moment for JJ to even understand what's happening, because it goes from him running for his life to him getting the fastest piggyback ride known to man. He doesn't complain—isn't sure that he could even if he wanted to—and instead just goes with it, ducking his head down close around Edward's shoulder to keep it from snapping back, and jerking forward a little once they come to a stop.
And he doesn't say a thing about it. Not a thing. He doesn't need to, because he'd walked into the VR simulations gifted with the ability to create flowers out of thin air, increase and decrease his size, command people with his words.
So if Edward got a little super speed? That's just good for them. ]
Hey—wait.
[ He accepts the jacket without complaint, but he's not about to let go just yet, mind still reeling from what had just happened, heart still beating rapidly. It hasn't sunk in that they might be safe, but at least he's aware enough to grab Edward by the arm again before he wanders too far. ]
Do you have a death wish? Do you know what happens when people separate in horror movies? They all die.
no subject
He's only taken a few steps when he's told to wait, glancing back as the other grips onto his arm again. ]
Do I have a death wish?
[ It is almost too ridiculous to think about. Would it matter if he did? He doubts the mummy skeleton from before could do enough damage to break his skin. That it could catch up to him. That he would be hurt in any way. Least of all that he'd die from it. ]
Not really, though I'm also not a big believer of what happens in horror movies coming true either. [ A lie, considering he is what appears in horror movies. ] But, I won't go far.
no subject
[ Because this is unreal, and if Edward is going to be so blasé about it all, then so is JJ, and he's going to do it better. ]
It's starting to feel like I'm the damsel in distress and you're the hero, instead of us being partners in crime.
[ Though to be fair, they'd never really been partners in anything considering that Edward had been doing all the work from the beginning, but JJ's standing by what he said. He takes a confident step forward, shoving the jacket against Edward's face, expression intent. ]
And we'll share this. Now, c'mon, we're finding a way out together.
[ He continues to stride forward after that, gaze wearing on the bubbling, purple liquid, and squinting as he tries to see if there's enough land to cross the toxic lake.
(There isn't.) ]
no subject
His head turns away as the jacket is shoved back at his own face, exasperated because he really doesn't need it. No matter how tough JJ might be acting, he's still human. ]
I'm anything but a hero. [ He's quick to reach for JJ's arm to pull him back, though as he gently pushes the jacket into his hands again. Then, more softly he says: ]
Would you believe me if I said I don't need it? [ A beat, then his hand pulls away, leaving the jacket in JJ's hands or on the floor if he doesn't take it. Then, his fingers press lightly into his trouser pockets, shoulders lifting slightly. ]
There should be a way around.
