❪ test drive: #1 - the overflow ❫
YOUR STORY BEGINS ![]() The Storm came. You only remember darkness, but you don't remember much after that. All you know, perhaps, is that it was cold as you slept. You don't know for how long you slept, but the dreams were short, at least. You remember the expanse of stars and the universe that came in view. Every world and solar system ever known was displayed in your dreams in careful, pristine detail. You have also witnessed The Storm, which has devoured a fair portion of these galaxies. It was a dark, thick smog; ominous in appearance and ever foreboding. Your Earth and similar planets were immersed in The Storm. Somehow, you knew it would be the last you'd see of it. That was when she told you what happened, and how you can help. You knew that you'll be living somewhere new, even though you never asked for it. The details here weren't clear, but you knew you'd made a deal with Darma. Not long after, you'll wake at Thesa Station — Your body is still cold. It was all a dream, but somehow, you knew it wasn't — now, will you keep that promise you made to Darma? PROMPT: THE MESS HALL ![]() It's fascinating to the Orbiters how such a dull room can be turned around so completely with people in it. All meals are served by Roman, and while all the food is delicious, some of it is a bit odd. Is that neon green soup? That’s hideous. If you happen to be in the mess hall at a particularly unlucky time, you and the food will suddenly begin to drift. Someone’s got jokes, and they’ve turned off the gravity control. Now it’s just you, your fellow refugees, and the floating sea of food. Wait, did that person just chuck a pie in your direction? PROMPT: TRAINING MODULES ![]() While it’s all nice and well to familiarize oneself with Thesa Station, it is most advised that new arrivals venture out a bit. Not physically. No one is quite prepared for that yet. However, there will be several virtual reality training programs set for those who dare to be adventurous. For those who aren’t and don’t dare, well— good luck, all the same. Be advised, however, that participating in one of the training modules will start you off favorably with the Natha Orbiters’ in terms of REPUTATION. Once seated and appropriately strapped in, the system will automatically whir to life and the dense foliage and forestry of a section of El Nysa will open up. According to one’s map registry, it clear to see that it’s miles from the outer gates of Olympia, but not as far enough to venture into any other territories. So, in that sense, you’re safe.
PROMPT: STASIS UNIT ![]() You have found the massive section of Thesa known as the Stasis Unit. There’s no special access required to access this part of Thesa Station, but refugees are warned that it may not be for the faint of heart. Here, in large pods that nearly cover every square inch of the space, are all of the people the Orbiters have managed to rescue. Your loved ones, your greatest enemy, your next door neighbor— you might find them here. These people are in a state of deep cryosleep. Due to the damaging effects of The Storm, their bodies are not yet ready to be awoken. PROMPT: HANGAR STATION ![]() You find your way to the hangar station. Here rests are a factory worth of docked mobile suits. You recall how the Orbiters had previously spoken of a "space frontier," but only after seeing this you realize how real their words are. Most machinery have marks of wear and tear, assurance that they have indeed been used before, and an assembly of others are going through repairs and maintenance. No one seems to care that you've just strolled in. In fact, there seems to be a couple of the aircraft that beckon you to take a closer look. Maybe you’ll only look on the outside, maybe you'll be greeted by the hand of a mobile suit extending toward you and welcoming you to its cockpit. You go out and explore SPACE!!! Unfortunately, that mobile suit should have warned you it only had 20 minutes of flight time left in its system. Or, perhaps, you’re a particularly ambitious pilot and you’ve strayed past the designated perimeter. Either way, the HUD display is now blinking with errors, cropping up with a single message: DISTRESS SIGNAL. PROMPT: OMAGE
Upon receiving your mobile phone, you will be asked to set a username. Voila, you can now access the network! You can choose to send a message to the entire network, specific usernames, or you can try out the Orbiters’ service, Omage, which connects you to a random user. They thought this might be a good way for their new guests to make friends with each other...
Connecting to server... PROMPT: WILDCARD
You are welcome to write any scenarios in Thesa Station! Characters have been granted temporary access to the Observation Room, and are encouraged to study it carefully.
FINAL OOC NOTE
These threads may be carried over as game canon if players choose! Players are encouraged to submit TDM threads as application samples, but they are not required. Please direct any OOC questions to the questions thread below! A Training Module thread of AC length on the TDM may be submitted for 1 NATHA ORBITER REPUTATION POINT after acceptance.

But her attempts at trying to show she isn't a threat puts his fur down, even if he's still bracing to make a run for it if she decides to chase him up something. No offense to her, but... it happens. And it's embarrassing.
Given how she reacts like an intelligent creature, even if she has nothing that reminds him of the animals augmented on Half-World (or anything he's ever seen period), he's expecting her to speak. The groan that comes in response to his words is surprising, but not difficult to translate. He's been understanding Groot for years.]
She didn't strike me as too discerning is all I'm saying. And I'm sure there's some "good is subjective" reasoning in there, but this "coddle all the endangered species" shit this place has goin' for it strikes me as an operation that don't leave anybody out.
Second chances and all that. [He snorts derisively.]

Even so, shifting to stand on all fours, the idea of hibernating, unforgiving evil—entities that certainly do not deserve another chance—is enough to make her shake herself out. Again, she's trying to get nearer, but if he moves in any form that shows he won't allow it, startles, any of that, she'll sit down and wait patiently.
If he lets her, she might be able to pick up scent of a number of people he's looking for, anyone he's touched last or was touched by, and she can help him search. But even if not, if he moves to continue what he's doing, she'll follow, keeping a short distance away since it isn't in her interest to scare him off, but almost obnoxiously nurturing in her demeanor. A mother watching a pup. She's there, if he needs her, is all that presence is meant to say, whether or not it comes through.]

So she gets up on all fours like that, and he doesn't step forward, but he doesn't step back- just holds his hands up as kind of a "easy I'm not going for my gun or anything" gesture.
He figures it's only fair that he show he's not a threat either, but it's more for his own benefit than hers. Cybernetics or not, mom those are some big teeth you have, but he's too proud to sit back and think his guns are no match for them .]
I'm not sure how this is supposed to go when you don't talk back, lady. Groot kinda... supplied a name. [He's talking to a giant wolf. If he hadn't been on the verge of being devoured by a planet the other day, this might actually bother him.] But I'm Rocket.

There's a lot of curiosity about the guns, too, because they don't have them yet where she's from. But she's settled on figuring him out enough when he offers his name, and she just about smiles, tail wagging in proper greeting. He can call her whatever he likes for convenience's sake, enough people do it, with enough names, ranging from things like Snowball to The White Demon of Death (geeze!), but it's all the same to her.
If he had contact with Groot before arriving, she's picked up his scent as well, but of course, she can't know if it's him alone he seeks, or anyone else, or even how to differentiate Groot from the rest unless he describes him, but she can tell that he must be important because Groot's name is one of the first Rocket's chosen to supply her with.
She glances over his shoulder in the direction he was headed, and then pointedly looks down at little legs… How long before he'll get tired on them? Because she's an exceptional runner, Rocket, and well, it might seem ridiculous in theory, but if he needs a lift. Or, she can just stroll beside him. They're going to look for someone, aren't they? Some someones?]

I'll figure something out. [namewise, anyway. if he was good at naming people, he wouldn't be calling Groot Groot. it's not his fault that his real name is as unpronounceable as the rest of his nuanced language.
he drops his hands and follows her gaze, narrowing his eyes until his mind turns it over and supplies a translation.] What? You got something? [he did have contact with Groot. Groot was the last person he actually touched before he came here, unless you count Ego as a person.
he doesn't, so if she's sniffing, she must be catching Groot's scent.] I'm lookin' for a little tree. About this big. [he holds his hands apart.] That Darma broad said he might be smaller, but hell if I know what that means. Any shorter and he'd be a splinter
[he looks down at his own legs and then up at her face with a look of bemusement.] What are you? My mother? I can walk fine.

A little sapling, is it? Ah! Down she throws her paws with a sudden surge of enthusiasm, rump and tail wagging. There are no real trees that she's seen here yet, but trees are so important, really important. It's been a pain to be unable to grow any herself, she feels out of touch, less than what she is. Up she goes again, prancing around him.
She's met spirits who've taken care of trees, but never a tree-someone, and. Oh, right, he may not be ready to awaken. Still, there could be a little tree-someone sleeping on Thesa Station, a bit of nature, and that's something. She 'rr, rr, rrs' chattily at him with little tosses of her head, and then sets to tracking. Nose going to floor sparingly, as there's not much reason to, so she mostly inhales the air, and—he's not in this area. In a minute, she takes to a brisk trot to investigate the next, simply expecting him to follow.]
no subject
Maybe they got a special tree section or something...
no subject
Without realizing it, she's slowed too much. There's an aggravated growl directed at the floor, and she's throwing her fur from neck to tail to try and rid herself of such rotten feelings. She's needed. She was needed. Being stuck on the station is making her edgy, because she's never been quite this useless, and what good is she doing here?
Maybe Rocket's saying something by this point, maybe not, but she glances over at him for a steady moment. And… well, sorry, her urge to be vital to anyone has her dashing off. It's likely he's left behind, but she can cover more ground this way.
The stasis unit is unfairly massive, and she takes a little longer than fifteen minutes, and soon following them she's venturing back to find him. At the end of the section she spots him in, she waits for him to notice her. There's nothing apologetic about her demeanor. They had something they set out to do, as it is, and now she knows exactly how far in, what turns to make, and all he has to do is follow.]
no subject
But that's just paranoia talking- whatever, at least it keeps him alive. He still backtracks to investigate what's eating at her.] What is it now? I-
[And there she goes. To his credit, Rocket does try to follow her, but even on four legs he's only so fast and she is a crazy fast, so he sits down, panting hard from exertion and waits. On the plus side, by the time she's returned, he's regained his composure and doesn't look like he tried to run a marathon after her.
He stands up, looking put-out, even if she's unapologetic.]
Eesh, lady. I know broads can be flighty, but this is ridiculous. [He looks her over, canting his head.] Did you find him?
no subject
She's at least certain she found him. Through the glass, it smells like him, and it was the only one harboring that particular scent so strongly.]
no subject
For all intents and purposes, it looks empty, because Groot's too small for him to see him in the frosted glass, but the smell is unmistakable and Rocket reaches up to put a hand on the cool metal.]
There you are, you little hellion. [he inhales through his nose and thumps his forehead against the pod, relief mixed with mild sorrow flooding him. Groot is here and safe and Darma promised him he'd remain that way, but it's still not the same as having him present.]
