❪ test drive #3 ❫
YOUR STORY BEGINS ![]() The Storm came. You only remember darkness, but you don't remember much after that. All you know, perhaps, is that it was cold. You don't know for how long you slept, but the dreams were short, at least. You remember the expanse of stars and the universe that came in view. Every world and solar system ever known was displayed in your dreams in careful, pristine detail. You have also witnessed The Storm, which has devoured a fair portion of these galaxies. It was a dark, thick smog; ominous in appearance and ever foreboding. Your Earth and similar planets were immersed in The Storm. Somehow, you knew it would be the last you'd see of it. That was when she told you what happened, and how you can help. You knew that you'll be living somewhere new, even though you never asked for it. The details here weren't clear, but you knew you'd made a deal with Darma. Not long after, you'll wake at Thesa Station — Your body is still cold. It was all a dream, but somehow, you knew it wasn't — now, will you keep that promise you made to Darma? PROMPT: THE KITCHEN ![]() Ordinarily, Roman is more than happy to cook up whatever the refugees desire to eat on any particular day. Today, however, just as a new wave of people have started to wake up from their cryosleep, the Natha Orbiter "housekeeper" is nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, those who have just awoken haven't eaten in a long time, and while there are many ingredients in the Thesa kitchens, there isn't any prepared food to go around. Now's the time to find your inner chef. The kitchens on Thesa Station are open for public use, and every ingredient you can possibly think of (or have never seen before) is just a fridge or pantry door away. Perhaps you'd like to prepare a meal with a partner, or show off your skills to a newcomer. ... It is possible for things to go awry and set off the smoke alarms, though. Do you have what it takes, or are you a culinary disaster? PROMPT: TRAINING MODULES ![]() While it’s all nice and well to familiarize oneself with Thesa Station, it is most advised that new arrivals venture out a bit. Not physically. No one is quite prepared for that yet. However, there will be several virtual reality training programs set for those who dare to be adventurous. For those who aren’t and don’t dare, well— good luck, all the same. Once seated and appropriately strapped in, the system will automatically whir to life. 1. One of the newest programs installed by the Natha is one that simulates life just outside of Thesa Station. You're strapped into the cockpit of a mobile suit or a spaceship: take your pick. Perhaps it's even your own, from your home world. They know that the possibility of needing the refugee's help in space combat is inevitable, and they want everyone to be prepared. For now, there's no danger, and you are encouraged to have some fun with it. Enjoy it while you can. PROMPT: STASIS UNIT ![]() You have found the massive section of Thesa known as the Stasis Unit. There’s no special access required to access this part of Thesa Station, but refugees are warned that it may not be for the faint of heart. Here, in large pods that nearly cover every square inch of the space, are all of the people the Orbiters have managed to rescue. Your loved ones, your greatest enemy, your next door neighbor— you might find them here. These people are in a state of deep cryosleep. Due to the damaging effects of The Storm, their bodies are not yet ready to be awoken. PROMPT: OMAGE
Upon receiving your mobile phone, you will be asked to set a username. Voila, you can now access the network! You can choose to send a message to the entire network, specific usernames, or you can try out the Orbiters’ service, Omage, which connects you to a random user. They thought this might be a good way for their new guests to make friends with each other...
Connecting to server... PROMPT: WILDCARD
You are welcome to write any scenarios in Thesa Station! Characters have been granted temporary access to the Observation Room, and are encouraged to study it carefully.

Peter has a way of surprising her.] We do not. [She says it softly, hands clasped in front of her, still a fair distance away. She remembers having this argument with Rocket, back when they had first met on the Station; she'd been adamant about finding a way to murder Ego in his sleep.
But then her eyes narrow a bit.] You already knew that, though. Didn't you?

... Then again, if he cared to admit it, he'd say that Mantis was pretty far from his mind when it came to this weird Storm and the fact that it was devouring galaxies left and right. He thought first of his team, his family; he hadn't known Mantis well enough, or even long enough, for her to factor in.
In his defense, there hadn't been much time to get to know her, considering he spent a good deal of his time on Ego's planet with his father – getting to know him, and then later, trying to kill him.
(Family reunions, yay.)
He stands there awkwardly, one hand still pressed against the stasis unit, body turned to face her, and he frowns at her. ]
How could I possibly know that?
[ A little defensively, still bristling with agitation. He just woke up; he can't be expected to know how this crap works already. ]
Do you know who can open it?

Seems that they are starting all over again. She had almost -- almost -- felt like she belonged in this little hodge-podge of a family unit. She had put herself in danger to try to protect Peter and Rocket -- her hand wanders to her jaw, where she'd once sported a bruise. She had cried on a giant wolf in an alleyway over them. She had done any number of things she didn't think she'd ever have the strength to do--
--but none of that matters anyway because Peter wouldn't have known any of that, whether he'd gone or stayed.
She tries a soft smile as her hand drifts back toward her waist.] They open at the will of the gods here, when they decide the person inside has healed enough to no longer need stasis.

Her answer isn't the one he wants to hear, and he huffs out a sharp breath. Not good enough, the sound says, and he rocks back, pulling away from the unit. ]
Do you know how long it takes?
[ And he tries to temper his frustration, evening out his voice. It's not fair to be pissed at Mantis; she's just answering his questions, after all. It's not like she has anymore control over this situation than he does, he figures. ]
no subject
Until they are healed, we are told. [A one-shouldered shrug, not nonchalant.] We just wait for them. Some wake sooner than others.
[Some, she hopes, never wakes up. For his sake, she hopes that Meredith Quill does and does so soon.]
no subject
And Meredith Quill has already suffered enough.
Peter's jaw clenches, tightly enough that he thinks his teeth might shatter, but eventually he forces himself to relax a little on a slow exhale. Then another. Then a third, until he finally feels more in control of himself. He rocks back away from the stasis unit, offers his mom one last hopeful look, before turning back to Mantis. ]
... You've been here a while.
[ A statement, rather than a question. Her answers are confident, matter-of-fact, in a way that speaks to experience, rather than rote learning. ]
