OVERFLOW POST
YOUR STORY BEGINS

The Storm came. You only remember darkness, but you don't remember much after that.

All you know, perhaps, is that it was cold as you slept. You don't know for how long you slept, but the dreams were short, at least. You remember the expanse of stars and the universe that came in view. Every world and solar system ever known was displayed in your dreams in careful, pristine detail. You have also witnessed The Storm, which has devoured a fair portion of these galaxies. It was a dark, thick smog; ominous in appearance and ever foreboding.

Your Earth and similar planets were immersed in The Storm. Somehow, you knew it would be the last you'd see of it. That was when she told you what happened, and how you can help. You knew that you'll be living somewhere new, even though you never asked for it. The details here weren't clear, but you knew you'd made a deal with Darma.

Not long after, you'll wake at Thesa Station — Your body is still cold.

It was all a dream, but somehow, you knew it wasn't — now, will you keep that promise you made to Darma?
PROMPT: THE MESS HALL

It's fascinating to the Orbiters how such a dull room can be turned around so completely with people in it. All meals are served by Roman, and while all the food is delicious, some of it is a bit odd. Is that neon green soup? That’s hideous.

If you happen to be in the mess hall at a particularly unlucky time, you and the food will suddenly begin to drift. Someone’s got jokes, and they’ve turned off the gravity control. Now it’s just you, your fellow refugees, and the floating sea of food. Wait, did that person just chuck a pie in your direction?
PROMPT: TRAINING MODULES

While it’s all nice and well to familiarize oneself with Thesa Station, it is most advised that new arrivals venture out a bit. Not physically. No one is quite prepared for that yet. However, there will be several virtual reality training programs set for those who dare to be adventurous. For those who aren’t and don’t dare, well— good luck, all the same. Be advised, however, that participating in one of the training modules will start you off favorably with the Natha Orbiters’ in terms of REPUTATION.

Once seated and appropriately strapped in, the system will automatically whir to life and the dense foliage and forestry of a section of El Nysa will open up. According to one’s map registry, it clear to see that it’s miles from the outer gates of Olympia, but not as far enough to venture into any other territories. So, in that sense, you’re safe.
  • 1. Or you could have been, but unfortunately the wilderness is home to various types of beasts and monsters hailing from different universes and galaxies. On the bright side, perhaps one of them will be oddly familiar to you. Or maybe someone else who is currently synced is willing to give you that extra helping hand.

Fortunately, if you’re powerless, there are options. From telekinesis to flight, there are strange abilities one can adopt and “test” out in the virtual reality. Granted, you’re only limited to one at a time. They say in the near future, some of you may be granted these abilities under certain conditions.

But, please practice some caution. You aren’t alone in the system, after all.

  • 2.. Who do you fight for, the VR system will ask you individually before you enter the module. The righteous Olympians, or the free-spirited Wyvers? Whatever your choice, when you enter El Nysa, you will wholly and truly believe your allegiance.
    • A. Working together: You now have to suffer the consequences of your choice, as you and your partner have been captured by guards of the opposite faction. Now jailed and soon-to-be tortured, you must find some way to negotiate your release. Perhaps you’ll find some means to escape without detection. Maybe you’re the “fight your way out” sort of people.

    • B. Facing your enemy: That person you stepped into the VR with? They’re out to capture you. Or maybe you seek to capture them.
  • 3. When you enter the virtual reality, things aren’t exactly how they’re supposed to be. Maybe that’s natural, especially if this is your first time, but the problems here seem a bit more fundamental. Maybe you find yourself under a parental safety lock, and you’re suddenly censored. Exposed back? Censored. Body suit? Censored. Or replaced with a mascot costume. Worst of all? You can’t sign out. Not right now, at least. Regardless, whatever it is— ridiculous filters, body alterations, or even body swaps with other users... you are assured it’ll all be fixed with due time. Zasere sends his humblest apologies and promises no more wire chewing, or so the announcement states.
PROMPT: STASIS UNIT

You have found the massive section of Thesa known as the Stasis Unit. There’s no special access required to access this part of Thesa Station, but refugees are warned that it may not be for the faint of heart. Here, in large pods that nearly cover every square inch of the space, are all of the people the Orbiters have managed to rescue. Your loved ones, your greatest enemy, your next door neighbor— you might find them here. These people are in a state of deep cryosleep. Due to the damaging effects of The Storm, their bodies are not yet ready to be awoken.

PROMPT: HANGAR STATION

You find your way to the hangar station. Here rests are a factory worth of docked mobile suits. You recall how the Orbiters had previously spoken of a "space frontier," but only after seeing this you realize how real their words are. Most machinery have marks of wear and tear, assurance that they have indeed been used before, and an assembly of others are going through repairs and maintenance. No one seems to care that you've just strolled in.

In fact, there seems to be a couple of the aircraft that beckon you to take a closer look. Maybe you’ll only look on the outside, maybe you'll be greeted by the hand of a mobile suit extending toward you and welcoming you to its cockpit.

You go out and explore SPACE!!! Unfortunately, that mobile suit should have warned you it only had 20 minutes of flight time left in its system. Or, perhaps, you’re a particularly ambitious pilot and you’ve strayed past the designated perimeter. Either way, the HUD display is now blinking with errors, cropping up with a single message: DISTRESS SIGNAL.

  • 1. You’re the poor sap who happened to chill around the Observation Deck. Unfortunately, everyone seems busy with the influx of mobile suits out and about, and the only one who can answer this distress signal is on the Navigation System, well, you. Hope you can figure out the controls fast enough. Guide the pilot back to the safety of the hangar using the most efficient route possible. Keen Navigators will find an instruction manual that provides a shortcut to automatically return a suit back to base.

  • 2. You’re actually sitting in a two-seater mobile suit. Funny how that works, isn’t it? Maybe you were unwittingly dropped down a hatch, or dragged along for a joyride by your ambitious co-pilot. Either way, it looks like help is going to take some time...
PROMPT: OMAGE
Upon receiving your mobile phone, you will be asked to set a username. Voila, you can now access the network! You can choose to send a message to the entire network, specific usernames, or you can try out the Orbiters’ service, Omage, which connects you to a random user. They thought this might be a good way for their new guests to make friends with each other...

Mess Hall.
[ Lambdadelta was already floating when this nonsense happen, so the only thing that changes is the direction she floats as everyone else joins her in the air. Waggling a finger, her tea returns to its cup and she continues to sip it. A tin of muffins floats alongside her, and she ogles them deviously. Picking a few out, she fires them into the back of your character's head with more force than zero-g typically allowed, as if her magic allowed her to make a more direct shot.

If you look back at her, you'll see her shrugging. ]
Wasn't me.

Stasis Unit.

I was fine by myself, you know. I was content to watch planet Earth go poof from where I was! It was an excellent show. Very few kakera end like that.

[ Nonetheless, this pink monstrosity is sauntering through the pods, occasionally knocking on them and putting an ear to them. Despite her frigid candy bones, she's going at this with a lot of energy. Pain is more interesting than not having any. She'd accepted on a whim, because after a thousand years things get predictable, and when something powerful pulls at your ankles, you go along. You see where the adventure takes you. You plan to make a few messes. ]

What do you think? Are they holograms, dead, illusions? There must be a reason they're frozen in there and we're out here! Don't ever assume the best of people who have power over you. No one rescues this many people for no reason.

[ She cackles bitterly, tossing your character a rogue grin as she saunters away from the pod she was looking at. Inside might be a familiar face. ]

[Humans, it seems, are far more ingenious creatures than he had given them credit for. As Kars surveys the room, expression carefully void of emotion, he's met with a feeling that he's only experienced one or two times in his life: awe. Maybe it's simply because, at heart, he's a scientist of a sort himself but the scale of technology here is undeniably impressive and he's momentarily silenced by it. He's still enjoying the moment, one hand to one of the tanks as he peers into the clouded window, when Lambadelta breaks his concentration.

He frowns but doesn't look up. Any other time, he might demand an explanation of what she just said but he's feeling a little resentful about having his train of thought derailed so suddenly.]

Tch. Any fool could tell you that. [He makes another short, sharp huffing sound.] They either want something or they're fools.

[There is, as far as he's concerned, no middle ground. When you have this much power over so many, you either wield it without mercy or have it taken from you: it's a matter of survival.]

Frankly, I'm just glad they haven't thrown us in the meat grinder yet. [ Soylent green, anyone? ] This must be one hell of a big operation!

Not that I have much to worry about from these chumps though...

[ Her worldly omniscience is gone, but that doesn't prevent her from thinking about how much power she can have over them. She's certainly pinning herself as stronger than most, at least with her given abilities. She does feel a dampening effect, but she supposes that always comes with being ripped from the fabric of your universe. ]

What do you think it is? The boon they want.
teotl: (❣ do you dare to do this)

[personal profile] teotl 2017-06-22 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, is she still talking? Kars turns to look at her, his head cocking to the side. Ah, that's right. He hasn't eaten recently, has he...? Now, how might their gracious hosts react to that particular piece of his biology? Probably with the same, all-knowing hand that they have everything else here; they've likely already accounted for every eventuality, including the presence of people-eating superbeings and something about that grates at his nerves. The nerve of presuming to know all about him. How ridiculous.

But it's really her next comment that gives him pause. She doesn't have the look of a fighter and neither can he sense anything strange from her but that doesn't mean anything really.

So, he ignores the questions completely and fixes her with a stern look instead.]

Such confidence from a child...!

I'm tens of thousands of years old! Try again.

[ Granted, she looks like a teenager in this scrawny body she favors, but that won't stop her from sassing back. This guy is built like a god, but that doesn't put off Lambda any. What kakera is her from? She's pretty sure she should be recognizing him...

Nonetheless Lambda conjures a gift box on the spot, oversized as usual, and offers it him by levitating it in his direction. ]

But I want to be friends! Here's a little gift from home, so we can start off as chums. It looks like something you really need.

teotl: (❣ you say that i'm kinda difficult)

[personal profile] teotl 2017-06-23 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
[There it is- the first ripple of surprise to break his indifference. There's nothing too farfetched about the idea of this girl being dozens of millennia old- it would make her younger than him but still older than Wamuu- but it's still curious to meet someone else so old after so many years of watching humans rise and fall in the blink of an eye. Stranger still, the girl appears to possess powers unlike anything he's ever seen, summoning a large, gaudy box out of nowhere with seemingly no effort at all.

Kars quickly remedies his expression and waves a hand.]

... tens of thousands of years old but still a child by the standards of some. Most people grow out of pranks.

[But his curiosity is getting the better of him. Against his better judgement, Kars plucks the gift box out of the air and, after casting a warning look in Lamba's direction, opens it up.]

I say once you get my age, it's all about maintaining your youth. Live a little! Be young at heart! And so on.

[ He definitely looks more imposing than her, but the muscled life isn't for her. Looking young is an asset, especially for keeping people off guard. People don't take you seriously when you look like a teenager, and for a witch, any pocket card you get is a good one. Even now, she's goofing off and playing along.

She cocks a wry smirk at him as he opens the box.

It's a pair of (bejeweled, jojo-esque) pants. A hint. ]
teotl: (❣ primadonna girl)

[personal profile] teotl 2017-06-23 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[That kind of sentiment might have scored her points with Esidisi but all it gets out of Kars is another scoff, though it's in part because he's not really buying what she's selling. You don't live that long without some canniness and playing games.

Not that it stops him from peering into the box. Oh.

... alright, touché. He isn't so completely joyless that he can't see the humour in her choice of gift and, in spite of himself, the corner of his lips twitches into a smile.]

Do you have a problem with my outfit?
ascertain: (Default)

[personal profile] ascertain 2017-06-23 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing, just in space we wear pants. It's a cultural thing, you feel me?

[ aka Get Decent Kars, you gotta get with the program. That outfit cannot be comfortable in zero g. Nonetheless, she preens a little at his sense of humor-- stoics weren't any fun. ]

Who are you, anyway? You're dressed like a god from a long time ago. Maybe not from my time, but--

[ She was on the other side of the world around then. Named by the Latin language, after all. ]
teotl: (❣ so you wanna play with magic)

[personal profile] teotl 2017-06-23 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[excuse you he is perfectly decent in his loincloth and boob-framing scarf]

And dressing like this is part of our culture. The others will have to deal with it.

[Why hinder your mobility with something like pants when you don't feel the cold and don't care about other people's inane little opinions? Besides that, it's a statement, a boast- you pose such a small threat to me that that I don't need to wear armour or try and protect myself- and a threat- this is what you'll face if you cross me- in one. That and, more importantly, the whole eating through contact thing. That's pretty important too.]

A god? [He shrugs.] My people have been called that before but no. [not yet at least] Who are you?

Whatever you say. It's nice that you're confident.

[ He should be confident, honestly. Lambdadelta wanted to wash her laundry on those abs. ]

I'm Lambdadelta, the Witch of Certainty. Normally this kind of thing is above me, you know, sticking around for the world to end. But I was feeling bored and I wanted to play a new game. So I came here to watch humans play it too.

[ All said so matter of factly, except for the fact that magic confetti shoots up behind her the moment she says her name, along with a faint 'tweeeee' of a party horn. She's being subtle, for once! Hashtag humble brag. She's lying a bit, she didn't come here because of her own free will. But she hasn't left of her own free will, that's what matters. ]

[Dlanor quietly listens to Lambdadelta's spiel. Honestly, she's not surprised she's simply being treated as any other person would-- That's the witch's style.

Still, there are a great many pods here with people she recognizes. This is of great concern to someone like Dlanor, so interested in keeping things ordered, and she has no choice but to speak to the only person she recognizes thus far about it.]

... There are many reasons this could be OCCURRING. To assume foul play is PRUDENT. ... But without proof this is a mystery, its face value could be the TRUTH. [Not that the angel believes that for even an instant.]

You're right on the money. Even someone of my status doesn't know the truth of this little board. That makes things fun and complicated all at once.

[ Lambda is truthfully overjoyed to be a part of this, because it's so rare to be lowered from her podium. Overjoyed and annoyed, though, because despite her boredom being quenched for the time being, she still feels a dampened effect hovering over her, making it so she can't travel out like she used to. Someone (or something) had a way with her powers.

Of course, she's confident she'll get them back, so it's only a minor setback. A rule for this gameboard, nothing more. ]

I hope they're not expecting me to live an ordinary life here. I want action! Drama! Space bloodshed!
