They don't know all that much about Reaper, but it stands to reason that he wouldn't have been so easy for them to take down, and that signs of his condition would have started to show.

He doesn't think that's unreasonable given that he'd recently watched (and felt) her die. He's usually good at not smothering her with protectiveness, well aware of her competence, but she's also "died" twice on his watch now.
Instead, he steps up to stand at her side, watching as Gabriel fights his way back into consciousness. While Ana's giving him the benefit of the doubt so far, Jack remains suspicious of this entire situation.
