omg hello

Data is in his uniform! Given that he is incapable of producing body odor and hasn't yet found his way to the slime labs, there has been no reason to change out of or clean the clothing he'd arrived in.

"Then there are spacial anomalies occurring." He reaches to his side to pull out his tricorder, one of the only pieces of equipment he'd shown up wearing. Not that the tricorder can detect much more than he can, but it's always good to get a second opinion from a separate computer when, despite Scotty's reassurances, Data cannot be certain he's not malfunctioning. As an afterthought, he starts a diagnostic scan running in the background of his positronic brain before focusing back on the engineer in his midst. "Interesting." From anyone else, that might sound sarcastic. But Data is genuinely interested in this bizarre phenomenon.

Also, as it turns out, genuinely interested in Scotty. The thing is that Scotty looks familiar, but also not, and the sensation of knowing someone without quite knowing them is absolutely baffling to a being with perfect recall. "You are Starfleet," he ploughs on, having recognized the uniform immediately from historical records, still somehow completely unabashed about the fact that he's barged into this poor man's room. His head twitches a bit, tilting minutely, one of the physical indications that he's accessing his internal databanks. His brows furrow in surprise, this time an expression that he's making without any deliberate, conscious effort. Or even knowing it. "Captain Montgomery Scott?" He has met this man! Suddenly, the earlier sensation makes some sense.
