❪ test drive: #1 - the overflow ❫

YOUR STORY BEGINS

The Storm came. You only remember darkness, but you don't remember much after that.

All you know, perhaps, is that it was cold as you slept. You don't know for how long you slept, but the dreams were short, at least. You remember the expanse of stars and the universe that came in view. Every world and solar system ever known was displayed in your dreams in careful, pristine detail. You have also witnessed The Storm, which has devoured a fair portion of these galaxies. It was a dark, thick smog; ominous in appearance and ever foreboding.

Your Earth and similar planets were immersed in The Storm. Somehow, you knew it would be the last you'd see of it. That was when she told you what happened, and how you can help. You knew that you'll be living somewhere new, even though you never asked for it. The details here weren't clear, but you knew you'd made a deal with Darma.

Not long after, you'll wake at Thesa Station — Your body is still cold.

It was all a dream, but somehow, you knew it wasn't — now, will you keep that promise you made to Darma?
PROMPT: THE MESS HALL

It's fascinating to the Orbiters how such a dull room can be turned around so completely with people in it. All meals are served by Roman, and while all the food is delicious, some of it is a bit odd. Is that neon green soup? That’s hideous.

If you happen to be in the mess hall at a particularly unlucky time, you and the food will suddenly begin to drift. Someone’s got jokes, and they’ve turned off the gravity control. Now it’s just you, your fellow refugees, and the floating sea of food. Wait, did that person just chuck a pie in your direction?
PROMPT: TRAINING MODULES

While it’s all nice and well to familiarize oneself with Thesa Station, it is most advised that new arrivals venture out a bit. Not physically. No one is quite prepared for that yet. However, there will be several virtual reality training programs set for those who dare to be adventurous. For those who aren’t and don’t dare, well— good luck, all the same. Be advised, however, that participating in one of the training modules will start you off favorably with the Natha Orbiters’ in terms of REPUTATION.

Once seated and appropriately strapped in, the system will automatically whir to life and the dense foliage and forestry of a section of El Nysa will open up. According to one’s map registry, it clear to see that it’s miles from the outer gates of Olympia, but not as far enough to venture into any other territories. So, in that sense, you’re safe.
  • 1. Or you could have been, but unfortunately the wilderness is home to various types of beasts and monsters hailing from different universes and galaxies. On the bright side, perhaps one of them will be oddly familiar to you. Or maybe someone else who is currently synced is willing to give you that extra helping hand.

Fortunately, if you’re powerless, there are options. From telekinesis to flight, there are strange abilities one can adopt and “test” out in the virtual reality. Granted, you’re only limited to one at a time. They say in the near future, some of you may be granted these abilities under certain conditions.

But, please practice some caution. You aren’t alone in the system, after all.

  • 2.. Who do you fight for, the VR system will ask you individually before you enter the module. The righteous Olympians, or the free-spirited Wyvers? Whatever your choice, when you enter El Nysa, you will wholly and truly believe your allegiance.
    • A. Working together: You now have to suffer the consequences of your choice, as you and your partner have been captured by guards of the opposite faction. Now jailed and soon-to-be tortured, you must find some way to negotiate your release. Perhaps you’ll find some means to escape without detection. Maybe you’re the “fight your way out” sort of people.

    • B. Facing your enemy: That person you stepped into the VR with? They’re out to capture you. Or maybe you seek to capture them.
  • 3. When you enter the virtual reality, things aren’t exactly how they’re supposed to be. Maybe that’s natural, especially if this is your first time, but the problems here seem a bit more fundamental. Maybe you find yourself under a parental safety lock, and you’re suddenly censored. Exposed back? Censored. Body suit? Censored. Or replaced with a mascot costume. Worst of all? You can’t sign out. Not right now, at least. Regardless, whatever it is— ridiculous filters, body alterations, or even body swaps with other users... you are assured it’ll all be fixed with due time. Zasere sends his humblest apologies and promises no more wire chewing, or so the announcement states.
PROMPT: STASIS UNIT

You have found the massive section of Thesa known as the Stasis Unit. There’s no special access required to access this part of Thesa Station, but refugees are warned that it may not be for the faint of heart. Here, in large pods that nearly cover every square inch of the space, are all of the people the Orbiters have managed to rescue. Your loved ones, your greatest enemy, your next door neighbor— you might find them here. These people are in a state of deep cryosleep. Due to the damaging effects of The Storm, their bodies are not yet ready to be awoken.

PROMPT: HANGAR STATION

You find your way to the hangar station. Here rests are a factory worth of docked mobile suits. You recall how the Orbiters had previously spoken of a "space frontier," but only after seeing this you realize how real their words are. Most machinery have marks of wear and tear, assurance that they have indeed been used before, and an assembly of others are going through repairs and maintenance. No one seems to care that you've just strolled in.

In fact, there seems to be a couple of the aircraft that beckon you to take a closer look. Maybe you’ll only look on the outside, maybe you'll be greeted by the hand of a mobile suit extending toward you and welcoming you to its cockpit.

You go out and explore SPACE!!! Unfortunately, that mobile suit should have warned you it only had 20 minutes of flight time left in its system. Or, perhaps, you’re a particularly ambitious pilot and you’ve strayed past the designated perimeter. Either way, the HUD display is now blinking with errors, cropping up with a single message: DISTRESS SIGNAL.

  • 1. You’re the poor sap who happened to chill around the Observation Deck. Unfortunately, everyone seems busy with the influx of mobile suits out and about, and the only one who can answer this distress signal is on the Navigation System, well, you. Hope you can figure out the controls fast enough. Guide the pilot back to the safety of the hangar using the most efficient route possible. Keen Navigators will find an instruction manual that provides a shortcut to automatically return a suit back to base.

  • 2. You’re actually sitting in a two-seater mobile suit. Funny how that works, isn’t it? Maybe you were unwittingly dropped down a hatch, or dragged along for a joyride by your ambitious co-pilot. Either way, it looks like help is going to take some time...
PROMPT: OMAGE
Upon receiving your mobile phone, you will be asked to set a username. Voila, you can now access the network! You can choose to send a message to the entire network, specific usernames, or you can try out the Orbiters’ service, Omage, which connects you to a random user. They thought this might be a good way for their new guests to make friends with each other...
Connecting to server...
Looking for someone you can chat with...
You’re now chatting with [username]... Say hi!

PROMPT: WILDCARD
You are welcome to write any scenarios in Thesa Station! Characters have been granted temporary access to the Observation Room, and are encouraged to study it carefully.

FINAL OOC NOTE
These threads may be carried over as game canon if players choose! Players are encouraged to submit TDM threads as application samples, but they are not required. Please direct any OOC questions to the questions thread below! A Training Module thread of AC length on the TDM may be submitted for 1 NATHA ORBITER REPUTATION POINT after acceptance.

[ This VR system was...surprisingly dull, from what he'd imagined. It's not too unlike anything back home, if anything, it might be less advanced from something he's seen, but that's beside the point. He's more interested in how far this VR system can really go, which may or may not have resulted in him purposefully slacking off and landing them in this situation. It might be fun and interesting to try to negotiate with these virtual enemies or see how far they're willing to take the whole torture thing, so Byakuran is more than willing to experiment. ]

Aha, trust me, I am.

[ The pointing and belching doesn't even make him bat an eyelid. In fact, he's exuding as much pleasant-ness as he possibly can, despite the cell they're both confined to. ]

You seem to take this little game quite seriously. It's not like there's any real-life repercussions.

I don't imagine it was.
But as amusing as the thought of those from less technologically advanced worlds fumbling with these devices is, I'm far more curious about the world you came from.
Namely, what sort of stranger things are stranger than the destruction of your home world and subsequent rescue by philanthropic aliens?

[ Cheryl is dressed oddly as well. she wasn't sure what to expect but it certainly wasn't looking like Wilma Flintstone. it's not the worst outfit she could find in, as long as you overlook the fact that it's also fairly embarassing.

and unfortunately it also leaves her without much to offer in trade. she opts to take her necklace off, considering it a moment before offering it to Tinker Bell. ]

This doesn't go with whatever it is that you're wearing. [ seriously what is that? ] Leather daddy? Tacky pirate?

[Rose likes Makoto's outfit. But then, Rose is a gothy piece of shit.]

A bit of exploration sounds fine. I'll even remain grounded to even the playing field, so to speak.

[The curve of her lips is wry, and neatly she draws a pair of white...stick things. She wields them with a firm but delicate hold, somewhere netween a wand grip and a dagger hold.]

I'd advise caution moving forward, however. These simulations have been populated with greater risks than high branches, in my experience so far.

That's a rather narcissistic mentality.
You wouldn't want your loved ones to live on if at all possible, even if they'd have to mourn you?

[McCree happened to be one of those card players, fairly deep into his game. He was enjoying company for what it was worth--quiet and impersonal. Something simple to keep his mind off the idea the entire world as he knew it was gone. Wasn't really doing the trick as each round passed and a clear winner or loser still hadn't presented itself, and each card passed felt more and more inconsequential.

Sombra's distraction is as jarring as it is welcome. His eyes are quickly drawn to the bottles of liquor. He'd sweet talked Roman into giving him a healthy supply of drinks but it seemed the silver-haired man knew exactly where McCree's limits were and had no intention to let him cross them so easily. Sombra had the good stuff, the liberating stuff--and plenty of it. He imagined she had to trade for it.

And so what exchanges between McCree and his cardmates is a quick, entirely wordless conversation. McCree leans on one arm, tips his hat up with his thumb and cants his head in Sombra's direction. The other three men exchanges glances, look at Sombra and narrow their eyes at McCree. Two men quickly shake their heads subtly 'no'. The third deliberates. McCree tries to egg him on with a raise of his brow, questioning, almost daring. In the end the man simply looks apologetic. It seems they're not willing to get sloshed in this way, not with a woman like that. She screams trouble.

McCree grunts and peacefully folds his cards. Tips his hat down in a farewell gesture and stands to move to an empty booth. He's decided the drinks are worth a little trouble. Maybe he's even looking forward to it.

Along the way he raises Sombra with another tip of his hat, index finger tracing the rim subtly towards the booth and makes direct eye contact--it's clearly inviting.]

This cabrón's mighty thirsty.

[ While Rick can agree, the technology is subpar and OK at best, he can't condone this type of behavior. This, this asshole. Just really getting on his nerves. ]

Wow. Great observation. I didn't even know we were in a simulation. You, you ever think that I just don't want to waste any more fucking time here than I have to?

[ Should've left this guy outside the chamber instead of letting him in before he started the simulation. He kicks at some stray dirt in their cell. ]

Besides you, you really think they're not gonna reward us for doing this shit? This, this training ?

[ Bucky has a lot of practice with handshakes, from morale tours, and the newsreel grin's just a reflex. ]

Everything that Uncle Sam taught me. And a couple other things, besides. [ He takes his arm back and starts moving to the doorway. ] I'm a scout. I get into places. [ And he points at himself with is thumb. ] And what I'm thinkin' is, if we bust out, they'll pull an alarm. And the first place they'll send their goons is the place they want us to be least.

[Ah, that's satisfying. Watching others struggle to find their footing in a conversation always makes her feel a little steadier.]

The coloring only has to do with the Light aspect, not the class. But thank you for the fumbling attempt at a compliment.

[Well, the air of faint hurt and confusion disappears all too quickly and she's once again a self-possessed young woman, sliding smoothly into one of the simulator's seats and neatly arranging the long ends of her tunic.]

Anyway, all awkward attemps at conversation aside, shall we do this?

[Majima's fist trembles around the handle of his knife as he holds on for dear life; the enamel almost cracks against his grip. He grits his teeth and drags the blade farther along the lizard's scale, threatening to tear it off completely. When Majima looks up to see the rock smashing into the lizard's mouth, he grins savagely. Serves the damn thing right.

However, Erik's warning comes just a bit too late, and the lizard's tail comes from Majima's blindside. It swats him off like a gnat, and sends him skidding across the clearing floor. Majima coughs and struggles back to his feet, glad to at least see the big bastard wasn't about to run over and step on him. He still had his knife in hand, lucky enough not to fall on it.]

Yo! [Majima yells back to his sudden comrade in arms.] That power work on people?

Maybe they will, and maybe they won't. [ He hums, inspecting the high window of the cell and feeling the type of metal of the bars. Meltable, likely. ] Personally, I'm not too sure I want a reward from whoever "they" are, anyway.

[ It doesn't hurt to be honest for once, in the moment, as far as he can tell. With a long and exaggerated sigh, he wistfully leans against the cell wall, giving the other another once over. ]

And! I don't think it's a waste of time to inspect the quality of the virtual reality here. Isn't it pretty obvious that everyone else is just gonna go through the same motions and succeed? [ Therefore, leaving this scenario of the virtual reality unexplored??? He's the kind of person who wants to inspect every option, starting with the one least checked. But that's too much serious talk for him in one breath, so he falls back into a childish remark. ] Maybe there's a hidden item!

[ clint barton, how are you not dead? he's hawkeye -- quick on his feet but impulsive, a master shot and agent who's earned his spot alongside captain freakin' america but still manages to get ambushed by goblin no-gooders in a virtual reality. he hadn't missed a single shot that he'd managed to get out in time, but none of his arrows were organized and he'd fumbled just a bit and now here he is, hanging upside down from a tree. thank god for alien girls coming to the rescue, right?

yeah, well. she seems friendly enough, but clint has had some bad experiences with weird alien people, especially ones that can fight. you could say he tends to find them a bit fishy. haHAA. ]

yeah, i'm fine -- but, uh -- [ he gestures to the rope that dangles him from a surprisingly strong branch. seriously, these traps never worked like this for him. ] i'm starting to get a little lightheaded here. [ he's got his quiver still attached to his waist, even if it is upside down like the rest of him. the way his quiver is designed, the arrows won't come out unless clint takes them out on purpose -- S.H.I.E.L.D. tech. his bow is on the ground, though, barely out of reach. ]

uhhh... [ okay, this looks bad, but not as bad as it could be. for instance, clint's map -- or the entire suit -- could decide not to work. good thing he read (skimmed) on how to bring up said map. it doesn't show the exact location of other folks around him, but it does show where clint himself is, and how if he looks to the left he can see nebula number something-something, and the gosh darn serial code of his fellow space floaters. all of those are potentially good starting points. ] okay, uh, i doubt you know your suit's serial number, so... do you see a... [It doesn't take long for Majima to have to resort to the knife. Getting a good punch or kick in around sharp teeth and razor claws took much more risk and concentrated effort than slicing off a limb or stabbing them in the gut. Majima isn't too bothered; not only are these not human, they're not even real. A brief thought passes him by that maybe he should be bothered, but he lets it fly in one ear and out the other as he digs his blade into the ribs of the third monster that came at him. Before it can hack blood all over him, Majima kicks it back to the ground. That's when the fresh face comes out of the shadows, and Majima rounds on him.]
