❪ test drive: #1 - the overflow ❫

YOUR STORY BEGINS

The Storm came. You only remember darkness, but you don't remember much after that.

All you know, perhaps, is that it was cold as you slept. You don't know for how long you slept, but the dreams were short, at least. You remember the expanse of stars and the universe that came in view. Every world and solar system ever known was displayed in your dreams in careful, pristine detail. You have also witnessed The Storm, which has devoured a fair portion of these galaxies. It was a dark, thick smog; ominous in appearance and ever foreboding.

Your Earth and similar planets were immersed in The Storm. Somehow, you knew it would be the last you'd see of it. That was when she told you what happened, and how you can help. You knew that you'll be living somewhere new, even though you never asked for it. The details here weren't clear, but you knew you'd made a deal with Darma.

Not long after, you'll wake at Thesa Station — Your body is still cold.

It was all a dream, but somehow, you knew it wasn't — now, will you keep that promise you made to Darma?
PROMPT: THE MESS HALL

It's fascinating to the Orbiters how such a dull room can be turned around so completely with people in it. All meals are served by Roman, and while all the food is delicious, some of it is a bit odd. Is that neon green soup? That’s hideous.

If you happen to be in the mess hall at a particularly unlucky time, you and the food will suddenly begin to drift. Someone’s got jokes, and they’ve turned off the gravity control. Now it’s just you, your fellow refugees, and the floating sea of food. Wait, did that person just chuck a pie in your direction?
PROMPT: TRAINING MODULES

While it’s all nice and well to familiarize oneself with Thesa Station, it is most advised that new arrivals venture out a bit. Not physically. No one is quite prepared for that yet. However, there will be several virtual reality training programs set for those who dare to be adventurous. For those who aren’t and don’t dare, well— good luck, all the same. Be advised, however, that participating in one of the training modules will start you off favorably with the Natha Orbiters’ in terms of REPUTATION.

Once seated and appropriately strapped in, the system will automatically whir to life and the dense foliage and forestry of a section of El Nysa will open up. According to one’s map registry, it clear to see that it’s miles from the outer gates of Olympia, but not as far enough to venture into any other territories. So, in that sense, you’re safe.
  • 1. Or you could have been, but unfortunately the wilderness is home to various types of beasts and monsters hailing from different universes and galaxies. On the bright side, perhaps one of them will be oddly familiar to you. Or maybe someone else who is currently synced is willing to give you that extra helping hand.

Fortunately, if you’re powerless, there are options. From telekinesis to flight, there are strange abilities one can adopt and “test” out in the virtual reality. Granted, you’re only limited to one at a time. They say in the near future, some of you may be granted these abilities under certain conditions.

But, please practice some caution. You aren’t alone in the system, after all.

  • 2.. Who do you fight for, the VR system will ask you individually before you enter the module. The righteous Olympians, or the free-spirited Wyvers? Whatever your choice, when you enter El Nysa, you will wholly and truly believe your allegiance.
    • A. Working together: You now have to suffer the consequences of your choice, as you and your partner have been captured by guards of the opposite faction. Now jailed and soon-to-be tortured, you must find some way to negotiate your release. Perhaps you’ll find some means to escape without detection. Maybe you’re the “fight your way out” sort of people.

    • B. Facing your enemy: That person you stepped into the VR with? They’re out to capture you. Or maybe you seek to capture them.
  • 3. When you enter the virtual reality, things aren’t exactly how they’re supposed to be. Maybe that’s natural, especially if this is your first time, but the problems here seem a bit more fundamental. Maybe you find yourself under a parental safety lock, and you’re suddenly censored. Exposed back? Censored. Body suit? Censored. Or replaced with a mascot costume. Worst of all? You can’t sign out. Not right now, at least. Regardless, whatever it is— ridiculous filters, body alterations, or even body swaps with other users... you are assured it’ll all be fixed with due time. Zasere sends his humblest apologies and promises no more wire chewing, or so the announcement states.
PROMPT: STASIS UNIT

You have found the massive section of Thesa known as the Stasis Unit. There’s no special access required to access this part of Thesa Station, but refugees are warned that it may not be for the faint of heart. Here, in large pods that nearly cover every square inch of the space, are all of the people the Orbiters have managed to rescue. Your loved ones, your greatest enemy, your next door neighbor— you might find them here. These people are in a state of deep cryosleep. Due to the damaging effects of The Storm, their bodies are not yet ready to be awoken.

PROMPT: HANGAR STATION

You find your way to the hangar station. Here rests are a factory worth of docked mobile suits. You recall how the Orbiters had previously spoken of a "space frontier," but only after seeing this you realize how real their words are. Most machinery have marks of wear and tear, assurance that they have indeed been used before, and an assembly of others are going through repairs and maintenance. No one seems to care that you've just strolled in.

In fact, there seems to be a couple of the aircraft that beckon you to take a closer look. Maybe you’ll only look on the outside, maybe you'll be greeted by the hand of a mobile suit extending toward you and welcoming you to its cockpit.

You go out and explore SPACE!!! Unfortunately, that mobile suit should have warned you it only had 20 minutes of flight time left in its system. Or, perhaps, you’re a particularly ambitious pilot and you’ve strayed past the designated perimeter. Either way, the HUD display is now blinking with errors, cropping up with a single message: DISTRESS SIGNAL.

  • 1. You’re the poor sap who happened to chill around the Observation Deck. Unfortunately, everyone seems busy with the influx of mobile suits out and about, and the only one who can answer this distress signal is on the Navigation System, well, you. Hope you can figure out the controls fast enough. Guide the pilot back to the safety of the hangar using the most efficient route possible. Keen Navigators will find an instruction manual that provides a shortcut to automatically return a suit back to base.

  • 2. You’re actually sitting in a two-seater mobile suit. Funny how that works, isn’t it? Maybe you were unwittingly dropped down a hatch, or dragged along for a joyride by your ambitious co-pilot. Either way, it looks like help is going to take some time...
PROMPT: OMAGE
Upon receiving your mobile phone, you will be asked to set a username. Voila, you can now access the network! You can choose to send a message to the entire network, specific usernames, or you can try out the Orbiters’ service, Omage, which connects you to a random user. They thought this might be a good way for their new guests to make friends with each other...
Connecting to server...
Looking for someone you can chat with...
You’re now chatting with [username]... Say hi!

PROMPT: WILDCARD
You are welcome to write any scenarios in Thesa Station! Characters have been granted temporary access to the Observation Room, and are encouraged to study it carefully.

FINAL OOC NOTE
These threads may be carried over as game canon if players choose! Players are encouraged to submit TDM threads as application samples, but they are not required. Please direct any OOC questions to the questions thread below! A Training Module thread of AC length on the TDM may be submitted for 1 NATHA ORBITER REPUTATION POINT after acceptance.

[ Her hand clasps onto her wand, reveling in the familiarity of it in this otherwise out of body experience. Although she far from distrusts Newt she can't shake the unease at this trade of their beings-- Or perhaps it's looking at herself through his eyes and trying to ignore the strange tingle of feelings.

Friends, he says, and she must look silly the way she immediately drops her hand and ducks her head away to hide the pleased look that crosses her-- his features.

Breath catching before she manages to clear her throat and straightens up all the same. ]

Yes, well, let's hope we find out what we're supposed to do before we have to use them-- Just in case.

[ AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA LAUGHS AT YOU!!!!!!! jk i hate when that happens im so sorry big sis............

isabelle isn't put off by the awkward scrutiny. after all, she lives in a universe where everyone is born with their own tics and catch phrases-- literally everyone. not much surprised her until her arrival here, but even then, it's taught her to expect the unexpected.

or some shit like that. it's not like this distinguished alien has been mean to her so far. if anything, he reminds her of the kindly old museum curator, so isabelle finds him strangely disarming.

plus, he Knows things; isabelle claps in delight. for some reason, a big fat animated star rises from the top of her head and pops. maybe it was an illusion though, who knows. ]

Really? That's great news! Thank you!

[ isabelle settles down before scratching her chin in thought. ]

The Natha do seem to have a lot of secrets, don't they? I've been afraid to ask them questions, to be honest.

[ she chuckles self-deprecatingly. ]

Which is why I appreciate your help! As for who to look for, they're my friends-- or, citizens to be exact. They look, well...

[ a big, sunny smile. ]

Like me!

[ It takes less time to answer that than expected, but its tone turns soft. Soft and a little more cohesive, too, harmonized and unified in a sense it's entirely unaware of. An invisible sense. ]

Ask her if we succeeded.

[ Is it possible to know? The timestamp on Legion's memory failed in those final moments before complete dissolution, a gulf of indeterminate length between turning away from her for the last time and the crashing darkness of the Storm. No inference can be made from the data still available; perhaps it was as little as a millisecond, perhaps as long as it took to end the war forever. Legion has heard that the Natha are capable of pulling refugees from variable points in space-time. If this is true, then it is equally possible that she knows the outcome of the galaxy's entire fight. Had the geth fought beside her people?

He hopes they did. He hopes they won. Statistical analysis predicted they would not.

Legion turns to face the stranger after a moment. ]

You were not present for our conversation with the Creators. How did you know about it?

Uhhh.

[ Alright, so any and all resemblance to Zer0 beyond the cosmetic is officially gone. And while Rhys might stare at Cayde a bit in surprise after his initial fall, that all changes look a look of incredulous mirth at the warning, brow lifting. ]

You sure you don't want, like, a hand there or...

[ Does. ]

[That noise reminds him a small bird. But it angers him too, because he can't understand its meaning. Usually, it takes no effort at all for the whirs and clicks of clockwork men to be as clear as his own language. But he's never met one like this before and the reminder that he is far from the lands of his Kingdom gives him an unpleasant feeling.]

Do you? Haha!

[Even the concept of a machine having desires is off-putting, but in the sort of way that makes him want to prick it with a sharp, thin needle over and over.]

Owe me. Then I'll tell you. Owe me something good when I want it.

[Snake's already realized none of these buttons are going to be of use to him, but it's okay. He'll just stand there with his arms crossed while Junpei entertains himself with these strange noises. He'll just occupy his own time by flexing the hand Junpei squeezed with a thoughtful look--

But Junpei starts talking to him again in some weird attempt to include him, so thinking too much about it is interrupted.]

Six by eight? That's far too many buttons than I trust you with. But if you insist... Two over, five down.
rhygret: (just listen to this guy)

[personal profile] rhygret 2017-07-06 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Rhys would like to argue that he's not skittish so much as wary, but his experience up to this point is generally not to piss off someone who has (had, in this case) a gun levelled at him.

Being compared to a puppy would be slightly less embarrassing if it was something tough like a German Shepherd or Bulldog. Can't it be one of those? ]

Well if this place actually had technology more advanced that steam maybe. I work with computers, not swords.

[ Except for that one time where he worked with a sword and wound up covered in Skag guts ]
rhygret: (shadow of a man)

[personal profile] rhygret 2017-07-06 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ W O W ANGEL. Thanks!! Where's the faith? Maybe Rhys just has a lot of dialogue options here huh ]

I know what you meant okay. It's called exposition. It helps.

[ ok!! ]

That and I still don't exactly trust you. But I guess it can't hurt to tell you that I was the one who found the Gortys beacon in the first place and that's what led us to the Vault.

[He's helping. Don't think about his hands without telling him.]

2... and 5, got it. Ready? [Just like with doors—but he's pressing it, and immediately after there's a much speedier whirring and Junpei swearing as something whacks him in the leg.]

Ow! Okay, that one opens a hell drawer on the floor! Why do they even have that...?

[He presses it again, thinking it will go back in, but it doesn't. So. He's kicking a drawer shut now.]
rhygret: (why me)

[personal profile] rhygret 2017-07-06 07:04 am (UTC)(link)
If it was an electronic one, sure. I could have that open in no time. [ Rhys gestures with his right hand, which is in fact chromatic metal instead of flesh and blood. ]

Unfortunately these guys look like they're stuck in the stone age and it's some sort of padlock. So unless it's secretly full of microchips and wires lock picking? Not exactly my specialty.

[ He's not sarcastic to be difficult or rude in particular. Rhys is just that sort of person, so hopefully she doesn't take it personally. Most people back home don't. ]
ripvanwinkled: (talk about how great i am obviously)

[personal profile] ripvanwinkled 2017-07-06 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Snake shouldn't have laughed? He definitely shouldn't still be laughing right now, by his shoulders are still shaking while he silences himself behind his hand.]

You-- You know, Junpei, I think they intended these buttons to be pressed while you are fully in the bed. Your feet would be out of the way. It's just a thought.

[Idiot... Idiot!! He's lucky Snake has no idea he's been a detective.] What about five over, and two down?

[ Saber is no novice to military training. The difference now, however, was that within this simulation mortal wounds could be given. The soldiers acting were meant to kill as they would on a field, with full force and no need to pull back. This is not just training it is a live, simulated battle. The idea itself was not such a difficult concept to grasp and she finds some understanding with the "people" she's allied with.

Their missions and goals are clear; Far from new to her she accepts her role and has so far acted accordingly. The Olympian patrols seem to have split up which leaves the Saber class Servant on her own within a small clearing. She'd been taking a moment to regroup when she heard the clambering of noise and whirls, drawing Excalibur in one smooth motion-- Of course, short of a burst of wind Excalibur cannot be seen.

Her firm stance slackens slightly at the appearance of a boy who could not be much of a threat. She tightens her grip on the hilt of her sword when he speaks, brows furrowing darkly. Of course she can hear the coming noise in the distance. ]
Do you take me for a fool? I will not follow you just so you may take me to your companions.

[There's a beat before she adds:] I will not harm one who cannot protect himself, if you leave now you will go in peace.

Oh? You've stayed in a space hotel before? Do tell.

[Listen, he's got the drawer closed again, finally. It might be scuffed from his beautiful Vans, but that's fine. No one else is going to live in this room.

Snake will be treated to the sound of shuffling and generous mattress-squishing as Junpei swings his legs up onto the bed- shoes and all- just in case something pops out and attacks him again.]

Let's see... 5 and 2, this time— oh. That's just the, uh- [He's trying... so hard..... not to laugh. So hard.] The lights.

[ Oh, the Gortys project. Angel remembers the files on that, although the plans on acquiring it never fully came into fruition during her time. More importantly, they were planned for after releasing the Warrior. And from the sounds of it, Pandora was still a pretty unpleasant place, which could only mean one thing: Jacks plan hadn't worked. Or at least it hadn't worked like it was supposed to. She can't put into words the amount of relief she feels right now. Though that's cut short by all the new questions this answer leaves in it's wake. ]

You misunderstand. We exist as a networked synthetic intelligence, the majority of which is currently being stored in a low-power state somewhere on this station. Imagine that you had awoken from stasis, but only two of your five senses woke with you. Our ability to integrate with and understand our environment is similarly limited.

[ So like, there. ]

Therefore, we wish to restore our remaining programs to their previous functionality as soon as possible. Any assistance you are capable of offering is appreciated.

[Saber has noted Selena's presence when she comes through. Not a woman to impede someone else's mission she kept to herself with pressed lips and quiet words to each person she meets and knows-- The woman does not expect someone to stop and speak to her about it, so Selena's statement questions her off guard.

For a moment confusion passes her features but it's quickly replaced with something more solemn in nature. Raising herself to her feet, the woman shook her head. Another moment passes before she gathers the words she wishes to share:]

This is all I am capable of doing for them right now.

[It's an answer, but half of one at best. She has no intent to pray for every person here which could be noted from the way her eyes glance past certain figures and narrow in on others.]
nakatsu: (determined)

[He hasn't stayed in a space hotel, he just has common sense!! God, Junpei. He already has to stand here listening to all this, and then-- and then this. This, he's trying hard not to smile at, and failing. Now he has to pretend to be offended?]

No, no. You have officially lost button discovery duty. [And just like that, Snake's going to push Junpei by the side of his head to make room for him leaning on the bed. Make room for him while he touches these buttons.] Now, four... seven.
assemblage: (you are one of us)

[ Legion appears to take a moment to consider this. Bargaining is not unusual among organics, and geth have similarly been known to agree to terms that benefit them. It's how they found themselves allied with the Old Machines. It had been a mistake. ]

What would you choose for us to owe you?
coolerjunpei: (mmmmmmmmmMMMMMM)

[personal profile] coolerjunpei 2017-07-06 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Well now Junpei's laughing, whether or not he can see through Snake's clever fake anger ruse. He's laughing so much he doesn't even have the energy to get fussy over having his head pushed - rude - and just scoots over without incident.

But first, in a brilliant display of word association (barely):]
Hah, Seven wouldn't even fit in one of these.

[And he's chuckling to himself all over again, which lasts until, late, he picks up on that whole 2/5 thing and simmers down to watch Snake poke at buttons. Oh. Silly Snake, that's sentimental.

Anyway button (4, 7) plays quirky music. How... entertaining??]

Tch. [Selena clicks her tongue at that - not in disgust at Saber, but at her own powerlessness. She's in the same boat. Even if she sees Lucina, or whoever, what's she going to do for them?

She looks away after a second, hand on her hip. She finally half-shrugs with the other arm, shaking her head.
]

Yeah. It's annoying, isn't it? Having to see them like this and knowing you can't do anything about it. [It reminds her too much of the times people have given up their lives - or tried to give up their lives - for her. Having to stare at their back as someone drags her off, or hating herself even as she runs away.]

... You must have had a busy social life, with how many people you're stopping for. [This time it doesn't come out snippy. She just wants something to take her mind off depressing thoughts, and conversation's an easy way to do that.]

So that's not for combat enhancement?

You're doing really well, Cadderly.
Just take your time and don't rush. People can't see exactly what you type until you send it, so it's just like normal writing really.
Plenty of time to think about what you want to convey.
