[The cry from Alphinaud surprises him. Haurchefant turns his head -- and a moment's hesitation is written all across his face. But, he knows, a Carbuncle is little troubled by violence against it. The creature will be back.

Not that Haurchefant has the slightest clue how the Arcanist's art really works.

He nods, and then steps back -- and lets the Carbuncle step in. The dragon gnashes down while Haurchefant darts along the side.]
True enough, my friend! I shall do what I can. Remember, we needs only hold the beast at bay long enough for the villagers to flee!

[And then he comes at the dragon's flank. Sword wielded in two-hands, he makes a pair of hardy, rough slashes that cut into its scales. The dragon roars, and then slams its crested head down for the Carbuncle in a mighty headbutt!]
