It's a cruel thing to use Ana as a way to take some of the attention off of him, and Jack knows that. Reinhardt had been just as close to her, after all. They'd all gone through the Crisis together, and her disappearance had been the catalyst for so much that had followed. He'd definitely started to splinter more without her there, his arguments with Reyes growing more and more heated until it had hit that boiling point.

When Reinhardt asks about Reyes, Jack goes tense, but he doesn't know if he can get into that right now. It's one thing to discuss Ana, who is here and who is still herself. Trying to explain what happened to Gabriel is a completely different issue, and he thinks that they've already gone through enough turmoil for one conversation.

It's selfish, but it's other people who had insisted that he was perfect and flawless, not him.

"I can't speak for Ana," he says with a shake of his head. "But I didn't know about her until recently, either." He doesn't know whether or not that will actually make Reinhardt feel better, but maybe it will help to know that he and Ana hadn't decided together to keep this from him.

"Overwatch was a mistake," he says, his own tone and expression remaining almost artificially neutral in comparison to Reinhardt's outpouring. "I didn't want anyone repeating it. So it was better if I just... stayed away."
